About

The Jewish Historical Society of Delaware was established in 1974 and incorporated in 1975. For more than 50 years, JHSD has honored its mission to acquire, preserve, and publish material pertaining to the history of Jewish settlement and Jewish life in the State of Delaware.

The Jewish Historical Society of Delaware (JHSD) serves as a resource center for the Delaware community by creating displays and educational programs.

Our digital collections began as an effort to preserve fragile documents like The Jewish Voice and to make access and use more available to the public. With support from the Jewish Federation of Delaware, JHSD began the process of digitizing this extensive collection of newspapers and providing an online resource for visitors.

We continue to identify and expand items for inclusion in our digital collections. We hope you will visit this site again, and discover more of the valuable resources we are adding every day.

The Society publishes a newsletter, creates exhibits and displays, produces educational materials and serves as a resource center for genealogists, researchers, organizations and other interested persons.

The archival collection of the Society is housed at the Delaware Historical Society at 515 North Market Street in Wilmington, Delaware.

Our collections are open by appointment.
