Dr. Tomases was a Captain in the U.S. Army Dental Corps and member of the 106th Infantry Division. In 1944 his unit was captured by the German army during the Battle of the Bulge, and he was a prisoner of war until being liberated by the Russian Army in 1945. He attended Haifa Technological Institute, worked as a police officer in Haifa, Israel and served in the British Army during World War II. After coming to the United States in 1947 he became a teacher at Beth Shalom, where he taught for over thirty years.
